More and more homes now feature sunrooms, which have become beloved as cozy, supplementary spaces attached to the main house. Many families carefully decorate their sunrooms, transforming them into the most relaxing, elegant, and uniquely personal retreats. But what exactly makes a sunroom high-quality and truly worth it?
A high-quality frame is the foundation for waterproofing.
When selecting doors and windows for a sunroom, careful consideration is essential. Since sunrooms typically bear significant weight, their frames differ from those of standard sliding doors—opting instead for high-grade aluminum alloys combined with steel, while increasing both the wall thickness and frame width to enhance structural support. For the glazing, it’s advisable to use double-layered, energy-efficient hollow glass, while the roof should feature double-layered laminated insulated glass. Additionally, special impact-resistant strips and sealing gaskets are strategically placed between the glass panes and metal frames, ensuring superior protection against rain and snow.
Leverage the momentum to expertly lay floor tiles
Floor tiles don’t need to be laid perfectly smooth—some grooves or unevenness actually help retain soil and water, which aligns with a more eco-friendly and scientifically sound approach to preserving natural landforms. Additionally, the corner where the floor drain is located should be slightly lowered to ensure that excess moisture from the soil can easily flow out through the drain. Finally, it’s essential to install an isolation layer, such as non-woven fabric, beneath the flooring. This prevents soil and sand from being washed away as water drains downward—and even helps avoid clogging the pipes altogether.
Strengthen the drainage and ventilation systems
When designing a sunroom, pay close attention to the setup of the drainage system—especially ensure the pool area isn’t too large. If the water volume is excessive, it can easily lead to overflow, which, over time, may pose serious risks to the building’s structural integrity. Additionally, make sure to prioritize a well-designed ventilation system; otherwise, not only could this harm the structure itself, but it could also negatively impact the health and well-being of the residents. That’s why a rooftop ventilation skylight is absolutely essential.
