How do window and door products achieve a perfectly watertight seal? These 10 points are the key!

First: Since most aluminum doors and windows have a recessed design, the top of the window must be fitted with a drip edge to prevent capillary action that could allow rainwater to seep in.
Second: Around the perimeter of aluminum alloy doors and windows, apply a waterproof coating (such as asphalt) approximately 300 mm from the window edge. Before applying the waterproof coating, thoroughly sweep away any existing dust or debris from the area to be coated, then proceed with applying the bitumen-based primer.
Third: The area around the windows must be sealed with concrete mixed with a waterproofing agent. Please ensure that the waterproofing agent is added, as regular concrete tends to become porous during curing due to moisture loss from the hydration process. This internal porosity allows water to seep into the room. In contrast, concrete enhanced with a waterproofing agent remains tightly compacted internally, effectively preventing water infiltration. (As for the foaming agents currently used domestically, their effectiveness remains unclear.)
Fourth: Apply waterproof sealant at the junctions between the window frame and other materials.
Fifth: All top-opening windows must be fitted with drip edges to prevent rainwater from seeping into the room through upward-facing gaps at the openings.
Sixth: Apply sealant between the glass and aluminum alloy frames—do not use adhesive strips.
Seventh: It’s best to design a small raised platform at the bottom of the window, with its surface positioned behind the glass. This way, water flowing in from all sides won’t spill over the windowsill and into the room.
Eighth: The windowsill panel at the bottom of the window, along with the sealant joint between the sill and the window frame, should be designed to slope outward rather than upward. Additionally, the windowsill panel must feature an outward-facing slope.
Ninth: For single-pane windows, the horizontal bottom rail should be designed with condensation drainage holes positioned at the one-quarter mark of the glass.
Tenth: Construction must strictly ensure proper joint treatment around the perimeter.
