Is the wall thickness of broken bridge aluminum profiles directly proportional to their quality?

In the window and door industry, especially when it comes to 断桥铝 (thermal break aluminum) profiles for windows and doors, is thicker always better? Actually, no—it’s not just about profile thickness. The strength of the profile, as well as the specific composition and proportions of its materials, must also be carefully considered to ensure the profile remains resistant to deformation and maintains a long service life. Moreover, once these 断桥铝 profiles are used to create windows and doors, the load-bearing capacity of the surrounding wall structure becomes another critical factor. Again, though, going too thick isn’t necessarily the best approach. That’s why the national standards have already established clear regulations governing the use of 断桥铝 profiles, thermal break strips, glass, and other essential components in these products. Below, we’ll provide an overview of these important guidelines.

  1. Profile wall thickness: For standard home decoration products, national regulations stipulate that the minimum recommended wall thickness must be at least 1.4 mm—though the exact thickness is ultimately chosen by the designer. Consequently, any profiles with a wall thickness below 1.4 mm are classified as non-standard products.
  2. Window and Door Seals: Opt for imported EPDM products, which offer a service life of up to 30 years—far surpassing the typical substandard alternatives, whose lifespan hovers around just 5 years.
  3. The thermal break strip is the most critical component of broken-bridge aluminum profiles. National regulations mandate the use of PA66 nylon strips, yet some manufacturers on the market opt for cheaper PVC plastic thermal breaks, which can compromise the product's lifespan.

  4. Doors and windows should ideally use hollow glass of varying thicknesses. The original glass panes are float glass, with a standard thickness of 5mm. The thermal break between the two glass panes should be between 12mm and 15mm, adjusted according to the specific profile standards of the doors and windows.
After reading the introduction above, I’m sure everyone already has a good understanding—but remember, the standard wall thickness for qualified broken-bridge aluminum profiles is 1.4mm. However, thicker isn’t always better. Instead, the optimal performance of broken-bridge aluminum doors and windows depends on how well all their components work together. That’s why, when choosing these products, you should carefully consider the materials used in every part of the door or window system.
