What makes triple-pane glass in broken bridge aluminum windows so great?

Currently, standard double-glazed hollow glass is the norm for broken-bridge aluminum windows on the market. But some customers are considering upgrading to triple-glazed glass. So, can broken-bridge aluminum doors and windows actually be equipped with three layers of glass? The answer is yes—typically, both the 60 and 70 series of broken-bridge aluminum profiles can accommodate triple-glazed configurations. But what makes triple-glazed broken-bridge aluminum windows so special?
1. From the perspective of thermal insulation: Triple-pane insulated glass windows naturally outperform double-pane windows in terms of heat retention. The thermal transmittance coefficient of triple-glazed hollow glass ranges from 1.63 to 3.1 W/m·K, which is just 29% to 56% of that for standard single-pane glass. As a result, heat loss is reduced by approximately 70%, significantly easing the workload on heating (or cooling) systems and air conditioning units. Clearly, the larger the window area, the more pronounced the energy-saving benefits of triple-glazed hollow glass become. Moreover, under direct sunlight, the energy-saving performance difference between standard glass and triple-glazed glass becomes even more evident. For instance, when 100% of solar energy passes through 5mm heat-reflective glass, about 83.9% of the energy actually makes it through. In contrast, when the same amount of sunlight shines on a 20mm double-glazed unit composed of 5mm heat-reflective glass paired with 4mm float glass, only 17.8% of the solar energy manages to penetrate. This clearly demonstrates the exceptional energy efficiency of triple-glazed glass. Practical experiments have also shown that high-quality doors and windows made with triple-glazed glass can effectively maintain an indoor-outdoor temperature difference of over 12°C.
2. From an acoustic perspective: The effectiveness of sound insulation in broken-bridge aluminum windows depends on the gap between the two layers of glass—larger gaps provide better soundproofing. That’s why double-glazed broken-bridge aluminum windows offer slightly superior sound insulation compared to triple-glazed ones. However, the difference in soundproofing performance between the two isn’t significant. Therefore, if consumers prioritize excellent sound insulation, opting for double-glazed windows would be the better choice. On the other hand, if thermal insulation and heat retention are more important, triple-glazed broken-bridge aluminum windows would be the ideal option.
