When installing PVC doors and windows or thermal break aluminum doors and windows, gun-type foam adhesive is typically used because it dispenses larger quantities, making it a more cost-effective option for window and door manufacturers who require significant amounts of foam adhesive.
1. Judge by color. High-quality foam adhesive turns out a milky white. Colors that are too dark or excessively yellow aren’t ideal.
2. You must use gun-type foam adhesive—those that are dispensed directly from a plastic tube are definitely not high-quality products. When applying the foam, the spray should neither be too thin nor too thick: if it’s too thin, the foam will collapse; if it’s too thick, the foam may become dry and prone to shrinking.
3. Once the foam has dried, cut it open and examine the cell structure. Evenly distributed, fine, and dense cells indicate good foam quality; however, if the cells are large and unevenly spaced, the foam is considered poor.
4. Examine the foam surface: good foam has a grooved appearance—smooth yet not overly glossy; poor-quality foam, on the other hand, is evenly flat with visible wrinkles.
5. Observe the size of the foam: good foam is full and perfectly rounded, while poor-quality foam is small and tends to collapse.
6. Check for adhesion—good foam has strong bonding power, while poor-quality foam exhibits weak adhesion.
7. Squeeze the foam block with your hands—high-quality foam maintains its shape well. After fully curing, it should be slightly elastic; if it’s too soft or too hard, it’s not ideal.

How to use a gun-type foam adhesive:
① Take out a polyurethane foam gun and clean it with polyurethane cleaner to ensure smooth operation;
② Next, take another bottle of foaming agent, firmly hold the middle of the can with your hand, and vigorously shake it horizontally along the length of the can for at least 20 times—making sure the prepolymer inside is thoroughly mixed.
③ Remove the protective plastic cap from the valve on the foam dispenser’s threaded collar, take out the cleaning agent from the foam gun, and carefully thread the foam canister onto the gun’s interface following the direction of the threads.
④ Grip the foam gun handle firmly, ensuring the material canister is positioned above and the foam gun is beneath it; then open the flow control valve located at the rear of the foam gun.
⑤ Aim the gun nozzle at the bottom or interior of the area to be filled, then gently pull the trigger to begin construction. You can adjust the flow rate to the desired level using the flow control valve located behind the foam gun.
⑥ After finishing one can, if you need to refill, simply remove the empty can and, following step ③, reattach the foam agent to continue working.
⑦ After construction is complete, promptly remove the material canister and replace it with a dedicated cleaning agent to flush the foam gun, preventing residual material from hardening, clogging, and damaging the tool.
