Is broken bridge aluminum a good choice for indoor partitions?

Aluminum with thermal breaks is a material that offers excellent sound insulation and boasts strong sealing properties. If your indoor space allows and your budget is sufficient, consider installing aluminum thermal-break partitions—they provide superior soundproofing and are currently one of the best materials for noise reduction.
However, when choosing broken bridge aluminum for partitions, keep in mind that while it excels in almost every aspect, there’s one drawback: broken bridge aluminum is best suited for use with swing doors rather than sliding doors. After all, sliding doors are designed to glide open and closed, which naturally creates gaps over time. Moreover, another limitation of broken bridge aluminum is that if the sealing strips (known as "mao tiao") are too thick, they can actually make it harder to slide the door open—doors with excessively dense strips simply won’t move smoothly at all.
We didn’t pay much attention to these details initially, but it wasn’t until we encountered a specific case that we realized how challenging it could be to operate heavy broken bridge aluminum sliding doors. Adding to the issue, overly thick sealing strips further hindered smooth movement. That’s why we eventually switched entirely to swing-style doors, instantly improving both the sealing and soundproofing performance dramatically.
So, yes, broken bridge aluminum makes an excellent material for partitions—but only when used with swing doors. Sliding options may not deliver the results you expect, whereas swing doors consistently exceed your expectations. If your indoor space is limited, though, I’d recommend considering lighter, slimmer alternatives like titanium-magnesium alloy sliding or folding partitions, which are easier to operate and still offer excellent sealing performance.
