There’s a saying in the doors and windows industry: "Three parts manufacturing, seven parts installation." When it comes to custom-made thermal break aluminum doors and windows, while the quality of the products themselves is crucial for preventing issues, the installation process is even more critical. Now, our editor will provide you with a detailed analysis of the installation steps for thermal break aluminum doors and windows.

First inspect, then confirm. Before installation, carefully check the positions and quantities of the预留孔洞 (pre-reserved holes) or pre-embedded iron components around the door and window openings to ensure they align perfectly with the connecting iron feet on the door and window frames. If any discrepancies or significant deviations are found, make the necessary adjustments. Finally, according to the design and construction drawings, lay out the positioning lines and precisely determine the location of the door frame. At the same time, accurately measure the floor elevation relative to both the top elevation of the door frame and the height of the middle horizontal frame.
When the fixed portion of the glass door requires joining due to its oversized dimensions, the joint between the glass pieces should be 2–3 mm wide, and the edges of the glass panels must be chamfered. After the glass is securely installed, glass sealant is carefully injected into the对接缝隙. Once the gap is fully filled, use a plastic blade to smooth the sealant evenly on both sides of the glass panel joint, ensuring the seam forms a clean, uniform straight line. Finally, wipe away any excess sealant from the glass surface with a clean cloth.
  2. Install the top limit groove of the frame
The width of the limiting groove should be 2–4 mm greater than the glass thickness, with a groove depth of 10–20 mm. During installation, first use the center reference line to mark two edge lines for the metal decorative panels, then align these lines precisely when installing the top limiting groove of the door frame. Adjust the groove depth within the slot using adhesive shims. In addition to wooden linings, the limiting groove can also be constructed with materials such as 1.5-mm-thick steel plates formed by pressing or welding, as well as aluminum profiles, all externally clad with stainless steel.
  3. Install the wooden base with metal trim
First, nail the framing square timber along the centerline of the door opening. Next, use plywood to define the shape and position of the door frame posts. Finally, apply the metal decorative covering on the exterior. When installing the metal trim, pay attention to two key points: First, align the butt joints of the trim precisely at the center of the glass installation area on both sides of the door. Second, ensure that the joint lines are perfectly accurate and vertically aligned.
  4. Install the vertical door frame
Attach the door frame square timber along the centerline of the opening, then use plywood to define the shape and positioning of the door frame posts. Finally, apply the metal decorative trim on the exterior. When installing the trim, ensure that the butt joints are aligned symmetrically on both sides of the central door area where the glass will be fitted. The joint alignment must be precise and perfectly vertical.
  5. Install the glass
Use a glass suction lifter to securely grip the thick glass, then, holding the suction handle, have 2–3 people carefully lift and move the glass panel into its installation position. Next, slide the top edge of the glass into the locking groove at the top of the door frame. Afterward, place the bottom edge of the glass onto the base support. Ensure the bottom of the glass aligns perfectly with the centerline, while the side edges snugly seal the gap between the door frame and the surrounding metal trim—leaving no visible seam on either the interior or exterior sides.
  6. Fixed Glass
Two small square wooden strips are nailed—both inside and outside—to the base support block, sandwiching the thick glass in the center door. The wooden strips are positioned about 4 mm away from the glass surface, after which universal adhesive is applied onto the strips to securely attach the decorative metal trim to them.
  7. Apply glass sealant to seal the opening
Apply glass sealant to all gaps, including the sides of the top limit groove and bottom support slots, as well as the joints between the thick glass and frame posts. When applying the sealant, start from the end of each gap and steadily inject it along the seam, ensuring a uniform, straight line of sealant forms on the outer surface of the gap. Use a plastic blade to scrape off any excess sealant, then wipe away residue with a cloth.
  8. Glass-to-Glass Jointing
When the fixed portion of the glass door requires拼接 due to its oversized dimensions, the joint between the glass pieces should have a width of 2–3 mm, and the edges of the glass panels must be chamfered.
  9. Installation of Sliding Glass Doors and Windows
Before installing the door leaf, the floor-mounted spring mechanism and the positioning pin on the top surface of the door frame should already be precisely aligned. Both components must share the same central axis. During installation, use a plumb line to verify that the centerline of the spring mechanism’s pivot shaft coincides with the centerline of the positioning pin, ensuring perfect alignment.
  10. Install the upper and lower door clips for the glass door panel
Attach the upper and lower metal door clips to the top and bottom edges of the glass door panel, then measure the door panel’s height. If the gaps between the top and bottom edges of the door panel and the door frame or floor exceed the specified limits—indicating that the door panel isn’t tall enough—you can place wooden shims beneath the glass at the bottom of the lower door clip.
