Window and door sealing strips play a crucial role in waterproofing, sealing, and energy efficiency—they offer features like sound insulation, dust prevention, frost protection, and heat retention. At the same time, they boast exceptional tensile strength, outstanding elasticity, as well as excellent resistance to temperature fluctuations and aging.
  According to statistics, building energy consumption in China already accounts for 27.5% of the country's total end-use energy consumption. Meanwhile, energy losses through gaps around poorly sealed doors and windows typically make up about 37–40% of a building's overall energy use. This underscores the critical importance of improving the sealing performance—particularly between window frames and sashes, as well as between door frames and door panels.
  Currently, the sealing strip market primarily features modified PVC, vulcanized EPDM rubber seals, and thermoplastic EPDM/PP co-extruded strips.

  Prices are relatively low, but due to inconsistent quality, lower-end products—often made using recycled materials, substitute plasticizers, and high filler levels—tend to have poor elasticity, become brittle over time, emit a pungent odor, and are prone to migration, causing discoloration of window frames. Additionally, these stabilizers contain heavy metals, making them environmentally harmful. As a result, developed countries abroad, as well as domestic cities like Beijing and coastal regions, have either phased out or strictly restricted the use of PVC sealing strips.
  It offers more than 20 times the sealing elasticity and durability compared to PVC processing, yet the product cannot be reused or classified as environmentally friendly—and it’s not a product encouraged by national policies. As a result, virtually no basic window and door manufacturers choose to use it.
  Thermoplastic EPDM rubber sealing strips are a new material that has emerged in recent years, developed through the introduction of advanced technologies from abroad combined with independent R&D efforts within China. They are primarily used for sealing car doors and windows.

  Its outstanding advantages are:
  ① Performance and service life are comparable to those of vulcanized ternary ethylene propylene rubber seals;
  ② Processing energy consumption is comparable to that of PVC-vulcanized ternary ethylene propylene rubber strips;
  ③ Contains no halogens or heavy metals like lead, and can be recycled after several years, meeting the requirements for green building materials.
  ④ Low specific gravity (only 0.9–0.95) and high windowing rate. While the purchase price may seem higher, the actual cost of use is low. In recent years, this product has seen extremely rapid adoption in architectural windows and doors.
  Product features:
  ① Lightweight yet durable, with high tensile strength and no water absorption (replacing traditional materials like three-coat-four-ply roofing felt, asphalt-treated wood boards, etc.). The product is environmentally friendly, easy to install, and delivers excellent performance in preventing seepage, leaks, and water intrusion.
  ② Corrosion-resistant, age-resistant, and capable of withstanding extreme temperatures—from +80°C down to -45°C—without flowing, deforming, or becoming brittle; boasts an exceptionally long service life.
  ③ Features an independent open-cell bubble structure; the specialized joint panel boasts a honeycomb-like appearance with evenly distributed pores. It bonds seamlessly and integrally with cement or sealant without the need for roughening, adapting dynamically to natural expansion and contraction movements while enhancing the sealing, expansion, and water-stopping performance of the joint.
  How to tell the difference?
  In fact, during the actual production of doors and windows, the proportion of investment in sealing strips is relatively small—but their role cannot be overlooked. Functions like waterproofing, sealing, energy efficiency, sound insulation, dust prevention, frost protection, heat retention, as well as temperature resistance and aging durability are all essential aspects of everyday life that simply can’t be ignored. So, how can you properly identify high-quality sealing strips?

  ① You can check for any unusual odors by smelling with your nose—normally, there’ll be a slight ethanol scent, but it’s so faint that you’ll hardly notice it.
  ② Wrap the sealing strip tightly around the profile, then leave it in high temperatures for a while (place it on the roof or in a sunny spot). Observe whether the contact area between the profile surface and the sealing strip shows any staining or discoloration, and check if the surface of the sealing strip turns yellowish due to dust accumulation (as oil easily attracts dirt), leading to oil seepage—and whether the sealant leaves your hands feeling greasy and dirty.

  ③ Some cheaper sealant fillers contain more filler material, resulting in a surface that isn’t very smooth or glossy. Those particularly inexpensive options with a dull, unattractive finish are not recommended.
  ④ Check the weight ratio: When you stretch a seal strip containing heavy calcium several times by hand, a small amount of white powder will appear on its surface. For products of particularly poor quality, it may even snap easily with just one pull.
