Are thicker aluminum profiles for doors and windows always better in quality?

In everyday consumption, people often hold this mindset: the higher the price of an item, the better; the more numerous they are, the better; and the more durable the materials, the better—after all, the more materials used, the higher the price tends to be, which supposedly guarantees superior quality. But is this perception actually correct?

Typically, aluminum alloy doors and windows consist of three key components: profiles, window styles, and accessories. Among these, the wall thickness of the profiles significantly impacts the product's price. Many consumers, when choosing aluminum alloy doors and windows, naturally assume that the thicker the aluminum profile—exceeding the national standard—the better the product quality. However, this isn’t necessarily true in reality.
The national standard for the wall thickness of aluminum alloy door and window profiles is established based on energy-saving and environmental protection requirements, while ensuring product safety and performance. However, a thicker profile wall doesn’t necessarily mean better product quality, as excessively thick walls don’t automatically guarantee superior air or water tightness—or higher overall product quality.
To determine the quality of an aluminum alloy door and window product, you must consider all aspects comprehensively:
  1. Reasonableness of profile design; 2. Air and water tightness of the product; 3. Configuration of the product’s glass, hardware components, and accessories.
If a product has an unreasonably designed profile that fails to meet the required air- and water-tightness standards, it simply isn’t a good product—even if its wall thickness exceeds the national standard by N times.
Moreover, on a larger scale, excessively pursuing thicker aluminum alloy profiles will inevitably lead to severe resource waste for the country. On a smaller scale, overly thick profiles will inevitably drive up product prices, placing an unnecessary financial burden on consumers.
High-quality aluminum alloy doors and windows typically use aluminum profiles whose thickness, strength, and oxide film meet national standards—such as the requirements outlined in relevant national regulations:
  1. The aluminum profile thickness of aluminum alloy doors and windows should be no less than 1.2 mm, and the oxide film thickness must reach 10 microns.
  2. Tempered glass is superior to ordinary glass when safety and durability of doors and windows are concerns.
  3. Stainless steel hardware accessories (such as screws, hinges, etc.) are superior to aluminum ones.
