The cold winter is fast approaching—don’t wait to replace your home’s energy-inefficient windows!

In winter, many residents in northern regions who rely on centralized heating often complain that their rooms aren’t warm enough—yet the radiators are actually set to a sufficiently high temperature; the real issue is that heat escapes too easily through doors and windows. Meanwhile, households in southern areas using air conditioning for heating are left cringing at the hefty electricity bills they have to pay. In terms of temperature alone, energy-efficient doors and windows can make a noticeable difference of about 4°C compared to standard ones.
Did you know? We end up spending nearly twice as much each year on our home’s inefficient windows and doors—money that could have been better spent elsewhere! That’s exactly how your high electricity bills add up!
In the cold winter, keeping doors and windows tightly shut can only address heat convection—but it won’t stop heat from being conducted straight through. As a result, significant amounts of indoor warmth escape outdoors via your home’s doors and windows, leading to wasted energy and driving up your heating costs as the room cools down. Of course, if your doors and windows are highly energy-efficient, the situation would be entirely different.
Energy-saving window glass offers the best insulation and heat-retention performance.
Some plastic-steel sliding windows are fitted with simple double or insulated glass units, but the glass thickness and the distance between the two layers of insulated glass often fail to meet standards. Additionally, there are issues with the steel reinforcement bars and sealing strips—low-quality strips lack proper elasticity and are prone to deformation. Similarly, for aluminum alloy thermal-break colored doors and windows, if the spacer bars and insulated glass units don’t meet the required specifications, it becomes extremely difficult for these products to achieve the three-step energy-saving performance criteria.
Currently, the glass used in residential spaces is divided into single-layer and double-layer types. Double-layer glass offers significantly better insulation and soundproofing compared to single-layer glass. However, even within double-layer glass, there are variations—some simply remove part of the air from the space between the panes. These types, while still effective, don’t provide as much insulation or soundproofing as windows with inert gas filled in the gap.
If, on top of this, the glass is further coated with a film, the hollow layer of the resulting hollow-coated LOW-E glass—expanded from 6 mm to 12 mm—will feature a silver and gold coating on its surface. This significantly reduces the emissivity from 0.84 down to a range of 0.04–0.12, enabling the glass to transmit visible light while effectively blocking far-infrared radiation (the type of heat we perceive as warmth). As a result, indoor temperatures are better retained, enhancing both soundproofing and thermal insulation. Additionally, the unique coating layer provides exceptional protection against ultraviolet radiation.
Additionally, it is understood that vacuum glass is the world's latest innovation in thermal insulation and soundproofing glass, offering significant advantages over conventional double-glazed curtain walls—specifically in terms of sound insulation, heat retention, energy efficiency, minimizing indoor temperature fluctuations, and enhancing natural lighting.
Its thermal insulation performance is equivalent to a 370mm-thick solid clay brick wall—twice that of conventional hollow glass and four times better than single-pane glass—enabling air conditioning energy savings of up to 50%. Additionally, vacuum glass effectively prevents window condensation in winter, eliminating both the "cold draft" and "cold radiation" often experienced near windows during colder months.
Aluminum alloy windows with broken bridges reduce energy consumption by one-third.
Of course, the thermal break aluminum alloy window frames paired with vacuum glass can also enhance a home's insulation and heat-retention performance to some extent. The energy-saving principle behind thermal break aluminum alloy doors and windows lies in the inclusion of insulating strips within the profiles, which effectively block the exchange of heat between the interior and exterior environments. As a result, their thermal conductivity is reduced by 40% to 70% compared to non-insulated aluminum alloy profiles used in conventional windows and doors.
In winter, window frames with thermal breaks can reduce heat loss through the frame by up to one-third; in summer, especially when air conditioning is used, these same frames help minimize energy waste even further.
Heating costs can add up to a significant expense—whether you're in the south or north, opting for water-based, electric, or air-conditioning heating systems, monthly expenses typically range from around 600 to 1,000 yuan. Based on this average, a household can expect heating costs of roughly 2,000 to 3,000 yuan during the heating season. Meanwhile, if energy-efficient windows and doors meeting a 40% energy-saving standard are installed, homes heated by centralized systems can see indoor temperatures rise by about 4°C. And for households relying on air conditioning for heating, they could save approximately 800 to 1,200 yuan over the winter months.
It turns out that although energy-efficient windows and doors are slightly more expensive than standard ones, they actually offer the best long-term savings!
