Role Model—Zhu Dahai
Zhu Dahai is the dedicated guardian of the wild giant pandas at the Longxi Hongkou National Nature Reserve. For 20 years, he has patrolled the reserve, navigating treacherous mountain ranges and deep canyons—and braving extreme weather conditions—as part of his daily routine. Despite the harsh living conditions and physically demanding work, there are days when he and his team cover routes with altitude differences of up to 3,000 meters. Each year, he and his colleagues conduct over 200 routine patrols in the remote mountains, logging more than 1,000 kilometers on foot. Happily, thanks to Zhu Dahai and his colleagues' relentless efforts over the years, the reserve has now confirmed sightings of 10 wild giant pandas. Meanwhile, they’ve also discovered numerous other nationally protected species—both first- and second-class—such as the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey, takin, forest musk deer, Asiatic black bear, and Tibetan macaque.
Zhu Dahai is diligent and dedicated to his work, never shying away from challenges or hardships—but when it comes to his family, he can’t help feeling deeply guilty. The old house they’ve lived in for years has been plagued with numerous problems, severely impacting the family’s quality of life and daily comfort.
